Over the past five years the Airsoft Club has been organizing large-scale tactical games. For his part, Dmitry, being the Galileosky engineer, provides the events with various gadgets to move around the terrain more accurately and increase the interest of the players.
Since the games take place in the natural terrain, it is sometimes difficult to find the right direction. Not everyone is able to use a compass and a paper map to determine the location and the exact direction to go.
After joining the FAD Master Group, Dmitry Dvoeglazov first started introducing an application for offline navigation. However, it turned out to be quite difficult to understand. To make it work, it was necessary to download a special application and copy the necessary files in a certain format into it. All this made both the preparation process and the game itself more complicated. At the same time, the problem did not disappear.
When Dmitry Dvoeglazov joined the Galileosky team, he decided to try introducing the telematics into the game scenario and replace the difficult-to-use application with a device that «knows» where it is and informs the player of the location.
According to the scenario - two teams on the shooting range are looking for items for «shots», and the leaders of the teams exchange «shots» according to the rules of the Battleships game. The side that caused the most damage to the opponent wins. With the EasyLogic technology and other useful functions, the Galileosky tracking devices made it possible to solve the problem entirely and create a game based on the GPS navigation, without overloading the players with this task.
Galileosky 7x tracking devices were used for the navigation tasks, since they have the latest edition of the Easy Logic technology that allows to set up the flexible logics of the tracker.
There was made an algorithm, which contained about 13 geofences, an engineer has also connected a speaker, installed a memory card, where the files with audio alerts were saved.
A large power supply was not necessary in this case, since the device did not transfer the data anywhere, just recorded the track in the memory for the report purposes. The tracking device switched off the GSM-module via the Easy Logic algorithm to reduce the energy consumption. For the sake of the experiment Dmitry Dvoeglazov connected one device to a 12-volt battery pack and the other to a Powerbank via USB. Both options worked in this case. The device and the peripherals connected to it were in two game cases, everything was secured inside, and the cases themselves were protected against tampering.
During the game, in the search mode, the device beeped once every five seconds, letting the players know that the device was working. Coming to a certain point on the map, the player fell within the radius of the geofence, and the device reported that the participant was in the 20-meter radius search zone. From that point, the sound signal mode was changed, as the geofence had to be «probed», as the player could get into it tangentially. There was one searching device for each team.
At first, the players had some difficulties with understanding the device operation, because there is a small time interval for determining the coordinates. First, the device enters the described geofence, then it receives the coordinates from the GPS module, and then the algorithm processes the information about all the geofences to determine the right one. While the device is processing the information, it may take several seconds, and during this time the player may leave the geofence and not have enough time to react. However, these problems have been solved, and the tasks assigned to the devices have been completely solved.
After the game, the organizers downloaded the tracks and showed the groups how they moved in relation to objects and each other.
Dmitry Dvoeglazov has plans to connect the readers to the tracking devices, as well as to use voice communication via a tangent.
