Background

It is important for the oil and gas companies to keep track of their equipment. The employees often work in shifts at different sites and the company needs to rely on the data on the quality of the work done to calculate wages. However, what to do if the GSM network is unstable and it is impossible to receive data on the location of the equipment? The Galileosky partner company has found a solution.

Development background

The Integrator company was approached by the company which provides services for the storage of oil, gas and refined products.
The customer has a fleet of 300 vehicles for the minerals’ transportation. The main oil and gas production operations take place in remote regions with poor cellular network coverage and weak GPS signal. The customer often encountered problems when uploading data to the Wialon server.
 
The fleet of the oilfield service company was equipped with Galileosky trackers in 2011, so there was no need to buy new equipment when implementing the current project: the functionality of the new system could be developed based on their own trackers.

Solution

The Galileosky partner specialists have offered putting two SIM-cards in the Galileosky 7x tracking devices and configuring them to switch between maps, depending on the stability of the cellular signal at the time of data transmission.

After the switch, the tracking device collects and sends data to Wialon about which service provider was connected at different intervals of the vehicle route. Wialon receives this information with the help of a specially created sensor. The platform will identify the current operator with the color assigned to it, when drawing the track. The user can see which operator worked on which interval of the vehicle track based on this color identification.

Result

The equipment is constantly connected and transmits data 24/7 in real time.The tracking device connects to the operator that provides the best signal here and now, reducing periods of the vehicle’s unavailability. The availability of connections has allowed for uninterrupted display of the equipment locations. For the client this was one of the important features. In severe conditions and in case of any emergency, it is necessary to provide timely assistance to a worker who got into a difficult situation. The customer gets real data about the situation with the help of mobile network coverage and can use this information in further work.
