Galileosky trackers are used in the oil and gas field

Compass Telecom has installed Galileosky trackers on mining equipment in one of the Russian oilfields. As the result it is now possible to control equipment performance and fuel consumption several thousand kilometers away from the headquarters.

Project background

Gas extraction equipment operates in Yakutia, where there is no cellular connection. There are only two ways to unload data from tracking devices:

  1. via the chain of units in the areas with more or less stable GSM connection
  2. via a stationary Wi-Fi satellite router

The integrator specialists installed trackers with cellular communication without additional functionality. This did not solve the problem: the devices did not transmit the signal for a long time, therefore the equipment remained out of control for 1-2 months.

After the station implementation, the GSM voice connection worked, but the Internet didn’t.

As a result, the client decided to purchase Galileosky Base Block Wi-Fi Hub special equipment.

Challenges

  • Monitor the equipment location in out of GSM areas
  • Transfer data directly from trackers via hubs
  • Monitor fuel, prevent drains

Solution

Compass Telecom specialists installed 50 Galileosky units. There were 40 translators and 10 hubs. It was enough to provide stable data transfer.

Hubs did not have time to upload data to the server via GSM. Experts installed a Wi-Fi router with an amplified antenna. After that, they reconfigured the devices in the GSM coverage area to work via Wi-Fi.

As a result, the equipment that works and periodically arrives at the base uploads data through the router, and the rest of the terminals transmit data to the hubs. Hubs, upon arrival at the enterprise parking lot upload data to the server via the router. If the hub catches a GSM signal along the way, it unloads all the collected data via cellular communication.
