Cargo transportation tracking system in Africa


Constellation Tracking Solutions, one of the Burundian key integrators, helps to control driving style, monitor fuel and eliminate vehicles misuse even outside specific geofences.

Project background

The customer, Musumba Steel, imports raw metal from the seaport of Dar Es Salaam and transports them by trucks on a journey of 2000 miles to then be transformed into building materials. It is important to keep an eye on what is happening with trucks and drivers on the way. Do the drivers take someone’s else cargo when they go empty? Do they drain fuel for sale and how well do they stick to plans and schedules?


In order to keep control of the machines all way long, specialists needed to:

  • Take photos of the driver regularly
  • Send photos to the monitoring server
  • Control fuel, even in complex-shaped tanks
  • Create geofences
  • Keep fleet monitoring


Integrator opted for Galileosky 7.0 and 7.0 Lite tracking units. To meet the challenge, they also used cameras and fuel level sensors Technoton DUT-E 485 from a Belarusian manufacturer. Such FLS were integrated perfectly with Galileosky units to monitor fuel on forestry equipment.

Photo control is implemented by taking and sending pictures immediately right after the car starts to move and on the way, one photo every two hours. This allows to record the departure time and be sure that the right person is driving the truck.

Usually, vehicles transporting metal are Mercedes Actros tow trucks and Chinese HOWO trucks. Their tank shape is quite simple, but there are also machines with complex-shaped tanks. In such cases, several FLS are used and each is calibrated separately. To spot and prevent the drain, eliminate cars misuse, experts compare the actual mileage and the amount of burnt fuel.

The integrator used Wialon to work with geofences. If necessary, the client himself can change their shape, draw a new one and customize it flexibly. This feature-rich solution allows to make changes on their own, without the need to ask for specialists’ help.



Thanks to the unit-based monitoring system, the end customer sees data of the trucks and driver’s performance and controls the use of fuel. For baseline monitoring reports, this data is sufficient for performance analysis.
