The integrator company company has developed a temperature control system for cargo transportation (perishable goods and pharmaceuticals) for Globaltruck logistics company.

Project background

Globaltruck transports cargo for retailers. It is important to be sure that the temperature mode in the refrigerated semi-truck has not been changed all way long. To control the cargo temperature the logistics company uses an integrated system based on Galileosky trackers, Tesla Smart TESLiOT BLE sensors and Wialon software. Thanks to such a pack of IT products it is possible now to collect data, transmit it, analyze and control.

The companies’ fleet has more than 2,500 vehicles, including more than 600 refrigerators for perishable goods transportation.

Logistics companies often face with a case when driver leaves the distribution center, sets a low temperature in the refrigerator, and after a while - turns temperature control engine off. This allows to “save” fuel, drain it and sell or fill less fuel at the gas station. Semi-truck fuel consumption is one of the most popular ways to cheat the fleet owner.

While the refrigerator engine is off, the temperature in the semitrailer remains uncontrolled: it slowly rises (in the warm season) or decreases (in the cold season). This can adversely affect the products safety: lead to damage during transportation or reduce the shelf life declared by manufacturers.

Semi-trailer doors opening control is another important parameter that affects the cargo transportation quality. It is important not to allow frequent and long doors opening, because pull temperature back to the needed thresholds may take time.

Challenges

Create a unified system for monitoring the parameters of cargo transportation in refrigerated trucks (several hundred vehicles).
Monitor engine hours, RPM and temperature conditions of cargo transportation - remotely.
Configure a notification system about deviation of the temperature and humidity parameters from the set thresholds.
Regularly send reports and thermograms with information on the parameters of cargo transportation to the corporate information systems.

Solution

The system is developed on the basis of Galileosky devices, TESLiOT BLE sensors and Wialon software. The product stack provided data collection, transmission, analysis, reporting and sending it to the customer's business processes accounting and control systems.

Also, notifications about temperature mode violations during cargo transportation were configured. The dispatcher can promptly contact the driver and improve the situation as soon as possible.

Galileosky 7.0 devices are installed on Globaltruck refrigerators, which receive temperature data from standard sensors inside the semi-trailer from DATACOLD recorders. The Hall sensors transmits data about the doors position to the BLE-Sensor v.2 TESLiOT-THLD. These sensors react to the strength of the magnetic field, determine in what position the door is, taking into account the "wobbling" doors when driving on bumpy roads, so that false alarms are not formed, as when using the more well-known reed switch relays.

Thanks to integrator team team efforts, Globaltruck can not worry about the of the transported goods safety and provide retailers with accurate data about the transportation quality, thorough and data on opening doors of semi-trailers in permitted geofences.
