Orchard Processing Analytics: How to Reduce Costs and Improve Work Quality Control

23 April 2026

Why traditional accounting in horticulture no longer works

Modern orchard management requires precision at every stage — from applying crop protection products to calculating production costs. At the same time, traditional accounting methods based on manual reporting and subjective input from operators fail to provide a complete and reliable picture.

The main losses are typically caused by uncontrolled consumption of crop protection products and fuel, deviations from agronomic parameters, and a lack of transparency in operations. Without detailed analytics, it is impossible to objectively assess how orchard treatments are performed and how efficiently resources are used.

What tasks the analytics system solves

Resource and operation control

The analytics system built on Galileosky data enables continuous monitoring of key parameters related to both machinery and personnel. The focus is on actual fuel consumption, usage of crop protection products, and the operation of attached and mounted equipment.

In addition, the system records the types of tasks being performed, allowing comparison between planned and actual operations. This is essential for maintaining compliance with agronomic standards and preventing errors that could affect crop yield.

Work quality control

Special attention is given to ensuring that operations meet predefined parameters. The system evaluates vehicle speed and the accuracy of row or zone processing. This makes it possible to detect deviations that directly impact the quality of orchard treatment.

As a result, the company gains an objective view of the performance of each operator and each unit of equipment.

How the analytics system works

Reporting and data visualization

After installing the solution on the client’s machinery, a key requirement was to process and present data in a format suitable for analysis. The monitoring platform includes reporting tools that provide both aggregated and detailed insights.

Group reports allow control over treated areas, working hours, and resource consumption across the entire fleet or specific teams. At the same time, the system supports detailed reports at the level of individual vehicles or operators.

Data is visualized through tables, charts, and track analysis, making it easier to interpret and use for decision-making.

Integration and cost accounting

The system integrates with accounting and ERP platforms, enabling automatic use of collected data for calculating production costs and operator payroll.

Additionally, maintenance tracking is implemented for both vehicles and attached equipment. Automated reminders for scheduled servicing help prevent unexpected downtime and improve control over эксплуатационные расходы.

The role of RTK in orchard digitalization

High-precision positioning and geofencing

In projects using RTK high-precision positioning, the system achieved a significantly higher level of detail. Row-level geofences were introduced, allowing monitoring of operations at a granular level.

An orchard with an area of 250 hectares may include thousands of rows and dozens of zones. Manual digitization of such structures is time-consuming and prone to errors.

Automated geofence creation

To address this challenge, a script was developed to automatically generate geofences based on machinery tracks. This approach significantly reduced deployment time and improved boundary accuracy.

Operators only need to add additional attributes such as crop type, block numbering, and zone structure. This ensures a balance between automation and the required level of detail.

Project results

After implementation, the client gained full visibility into orchard operations. The consumption of crop protection products decreased by 10–20% due to better adherence to application rates and elimination of overuse.

The risk of crop damage was reduced thanks to improved quality control and timely detection of deviations. At the same time, the workload on personnel decreased as reporting processes became automated.

The economic impact proved substantial: the payback period of the solution is estimated at 1–2 years. Beyond direct savings, the system provides long-term value by increasing transparency and control over all operational processes.
