Like any process, the setting up of GPS trackers can be accelerated. This is particularly useful if you need to create a complex multifunction project for a large fleet. On the one hand, you can always find the information in user guides or setup instructions. On the other hand, there is no need to neglect “Hotkeys”, which will make the process as easy as possible. We asked our IT experts to name 5 tips for you to know before setting up tracking devices.
Upload your previous setups
While creating a new project it is possible to use a previous configuration, if the setup is similar. To do this enter the user’s setup on one device and save them via “Save to file” button. After that, you can upload the setup to other tracking units and save much time. Both local and remote uploading are possible.
Use a group setting for trackers
In order to set up, implement commands, upload configuration files, algorithms, scripts and filters for a number of trackers at the same time, it is possible to use the group sending function.
First, it is necessary to authorize in the remote configuring service. Press on the find tab “Device” in the “Configurator” program and then “Select device”. In the opened dialog box choose “Remote device (Internet)”. The program will request your login and password for authorization.
After the authorization you need to register all tracking units with the button “Register device”. At the default mode, the superuser’s password is equal to the IMEI of the tracker. For each registered unit you can assign the own name. For instance, for your convenience you can name each tracker according to the state number of the vehicle, on which it is installed. To do this, you need to set one or several groups and add all registered devices using the command “Add device to group”.
To apply setups and upload Easy Logic algorithms straight to the group of devices, you have to configure one tracker first and then save the setup. After that apply the saved file to the group of units using the command “Upload algorithm to group…”.
When you need to make a few small changes into the setup it is faster and easier to use commands. For example, include only one command into the protocol or upload only one algorithm.
You can send commands remotely with help of “Configurator”, via SMS or from the monitoring software if supported. To make sure the device will follow the command as soon as it is in the GSM coverage press the “Send to queue” button. You can get familiar with the whole list of commands in the user guide.
Use default settings
Data transmission, security, track recording and receiving data from peripherals setups are made by default in such a way that device can function correctly without additional settings.
On the tab “Track” in the “Configurator” program, all setups are optimized for perfect track recording. By default, the point is registered every 40 seconds in motion and every 2 minutes during stop. Additional points are fixed while cornering at a speed of 3 km\h and higher, also when turning every 10 degrees and every 300 meters as well.
On the “Protocol” tab fixing and transferring data to the server are enabled. Including, such data as day and time, coordinates, speed, height above sea level, internal and external voltage and status of the tracker.
On the tab “Inputs and outputs” discrete-analog inputs in the default mode start working upon reaching the voltage higher than 9V. For digital inputs RS 232 and RS 485 digital fuel level sensors are chosen for connection by default.
Update firmware regularly
Don’t forget to update the firmware of your GPS devices for them to become faster and more accurate. Upgrade also opens up for you new opportunities, tools, and functions. You can update trackers locally as well as remotely via the UPGRAGE 0 or UPGRADE (№ firmware) command.
